Opportunities for Early Career Researchers in 2026

The Einstein Telescope is a highly ambitious research infrastructure designed to open a new era of gravitational-wave astronomy and fundamental physics. Making ET a success will require a new generation of highly qualified researchers, engineers, and specialists who continuously develop skills across science, technology, and collaboration. Below is a snapshot of options that are openly accessible to the wider early-career ET community right now — from a near-term in-person workshop to flexible self-study resources and a summer school focused on multimessenger astrophysics.

The Italian Society for General Relativity and Gravitational Physics (SIGRAV) International School (16-20 February 2026)

Topic: Neutron Stars: Modelling and Detection

2026 year edition of the Italian Society of General Relativity and Gravitation (SIGRAV) International School is dedicated to the study of neutron stars as outstanding sources of gravitational and electromagnetic waves in the strong-field regime. The program is structured to promote scholarly interaction and collaboration, offering participants the opportunity to engage with leading experts in the field. Through a series of advanced lectures and discussions, the School aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of current developments in gravitational research and to equip attendees with the knowledge and tools necessary to advance their own scientific work in the study of gravity.

ET Science Workshop for Early Career Researchers (Rome, 18–20 Feb 2026)

WE Heraeus Physics School & 62nd Karpacz Winter School (Multimessenger Astrophysics and Cosmology) (28 Feb – 6 Mar 2026)

The school will cover the thermal history of the Universe after its first second, from the quark–hadron transition to neutrino decoupling, linking microphysics to cosmological observables. Topics include the Hubble tension, modified gravity, primordial magnetic fields, compact-object mergers, future gravitational-wave science, and primordial black holes as dark-matter or galaxy-seed candidates—offering a unified view across astrophysics, cosmology, and particle physics.

Summer School 2026: Multimessenger Astrophysics (Barcelona, 6–14 July 2026)

The Institute of Space Sciences (ICE-CSIC) will run an intensive summer school on multimessenger astrophysics — covering electromagnetic radiation, cosmic rays, neutrinos, and gravitational waves — with a mix of lectures and hands-on sessions (including GW/data-analysis components). The school welcomes Master’s and PhD students, and applications from early-career postdocs are also welcome.

Build research software skills anytime: HSF Training

Many ET early-career researchers develop or rely on software every day — analysis pipelines, simulations, workflow automation, reproducibility, performance, and more. The HEP Software Foundation (HSF) maintains open training activities that are broadly useful across research communities, including gravitational-wave science.
