Einstein Telescope Collaboration

The governance of the Einstein Telescope Collaboration is built on a multi-layered structure designed to support its scientific objectives. This section provides a view at the organisational layout, defining the responsibilities of the spokesperson team and various boards. It serves as a reference for understanding how the collaboration is managed and how the community aligns its efforts through formal channels.

Spokesperson team

The spokesperson and deputy spokesperson serve as key representatives of the collaboration and help guide its scientific and strategic work, together with the collaboration’s governing bodies.

Boards

The collaboration is structured into seven boards, each focusing on specific aspects of the science of the Einstein Telescope:

• Executive Board: manages and coordinates the technical and daily activities of the collaboration, led by the spokesperson.
• The Collaboration Board: represents the member institutions, elects the Spokesperson/Deputy Spokesperson team and gives final endorsement for all important Executive Board decisions (e.g. on chairs of board, divisions or work packages, inclusion of a new Research Unit, collaboration rules, etc). Chair: Patrice Verdier
• Instrument Science Board: works on the technical design for the instrument and suggesting R&D schemes for missing technologies. Chairs: Jan Harms, Stefan Hild
• Observational Science Board: defines the science case for the Einstein Telescope, involving detector configurations, a data analysis platform, computational needs and interaction with other observatories. Chairs: Michela Mapelli, Archisman Ghosh, Paolo Pani
• ET e-Infrastructure Board: works on designing and creating the e-infrastructure environment, including a computing model. Chairs: Stefano Bagnasco, Paul Laycock
• Site Characterization Board: focuses on geological, geotechnical and noise measurements of the candidate sites. Chairs: Domenico D’Urso, Wim Walk, Andreas Rietbrock
• Standards and Services Board: oversees a diverse portfolio of committees, ranging from scientific program and ethics to early career researchers and meetings and symposia committee, each led by an elected chair.

Research units

In addition to being grouped based on their expertise and work, ET Collaboration members are also organised into ‘Research Units’ based on their affiliated universities or research institutions. These units serve representation and administrative purposes. At the moment, there are 99 Research Units. The Research Unit leader acts as the liaison between the unit and the ET collaboration. Einstein Telescope Collaboration members can view the list of existing Research Units on the document file server (accessible to collaboration members only).
